A Note From Megan: Why This Matters

The Empowered Girl Project was born from a powerful moment I’ll never forget. I led an anonymous mental health exercise called Stand Up for Your Sister with 87 girls, grades 6th–12th, at the Girls on Fire summer camp hosted by the Blue Springs Police Department. The results were heartbreaking 96% of the girls said they struggle to talk about their emotions, 95% compare themselves on social media and feel “less than,” and nearly half have experienced or witnessed abuse.

I read their responses and cried. And then I knew,  I couldn’t just walk away from this. I can’t hold this information and not take action.

We have to show up for the girls in our community.

So I’m doing just that. I have the space, the team, the mission, and the passion. Now, I’m asking the community to help me bring this program to life,  and offer it completely free for girls who need it most.

Program Overview

The Empowered Girl Project is a 6-month, bi-weekly FREE wellness and empowerment program designed specifically for 25 middle school girls in our community. Through movement, mindfulness, journaling, and guided group connection, girls will learn how to navigate stress, anxiety, build self-worth, set healthy boundaries, and feel a deep sense of belonging.

Each of the 12 sessions over 6 months blends yoga, movement, creative activities, and meaningful conversations led by trauma-informed instructors and guest experts. The program is offered completely free to families to ensure accessibility for all.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create a brave, safe space where middle school girls can heal, grow, and rise. We believe every girl deserves to feel seen, supported, and strong in her own skin. Through connection, movement, mentorship, and community, we’re building the next generation of confident, emotionally resilient young women.

Expected Outcomes

  • Girls will leave the program with a stronger sense of self-worth and emotional awareness.
  • Participants will report increased confidence, belonging, and the ability to speak up for themselves.
  • Girls will learn how to identify and manage emotions like anxiety, sadness, and anger.
  • Participants will gain a supportive sisterhood and peer community that reduces isolation and loneliness.
  • Families will notice improved emotional expression, communication, and positive behavior changes.
  • The program will build a model for sustainable, ongoing mental health support for middle school girls in the community.

A 6-month mental, emotional, and physical wellness program for middle school girls is free to all families, made possible by YOU.
